Measurement type

Use a decimal point (1.5), optional thousands commas (1,234.5), or scientific notation (1.5e3). Swap keeps your value and reverses the units.

Rounding affects the display only. Very small or large results use scientific notation. Calculations use standard double precision.

Feet, yards and miles use international definitions. Computer points are 1/72 inch; picas are 1/6 inch.

How it works

Select a measurement type, enter a value and choose the source and target units. Results and the reference table update as you type. Swap reverses the units while retaining the input. Copy saves the displayed result with its unit; reset returns to 1 meter in feet.

Example

One mile is 1.609344 kilometers. One pound is 0.45359237 kilograms. Water freezes at 0 °C, 32 °F or 273.15 K. One US liquid gallon is 3.785411784 liters; one imperial gallon is 4.54609 liters.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there different gallons, ounces and tons?

US and imperial volume units have different definitions. Fluid ounces measure volume; avoirdupois and troy ounces measure mass. Metric tonnes, US short tons and imperial long tons are also different. Choose the explicitly labeled unit. Converting volume to mass requires a material’s density and is not part of this tool.

How accurate are the results?

Conversions use defining constants where available, with standard double-precision arithmetic. Select 6, 10 or 15 significant digits for display. Results are rounded, not arbitrary-precision measurements. Temperature conversions include scale offsets and apply to readings, not temperature differences.
